Mac: Add an address to Mail

  1. Open Mac OS Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, select Preferences:Tools > Accounts
  3. Click the + button to add a new email account:Add > New ...
  4. General Information
    • Select POP from the list of account types:
    • Account description: Enter a description for your email account, for example your email address.
    • Full Name: The name you type in here will show up on emails that you send to others.
    • Email address: Enter the email address you are creating the account for.
    • Click on the Continue button

  5. Incoming Mail Server
    • Incoming Mail Server: Type mail. and your domain name
    • User name: Type your whole email address again (e.g. you@yourdomain.com .. the whole thing)
    • Password: Type your password
    • Click on the Continue button

  7. Outgoing Mail Server
    • Outgoing Mail Server: Type mail. your domain name
    • Click on Use authentication, so that a tick appears next to it.
    • User name: Type your whole email address again (e.g. you@yourdomain.com .. the whole thing)
    • Password: Type your password
    • Click on the Continue button

  9. Account SummaryCheck that all details are correct, then click on the Continue button

  12. Server Settings
    • Check that the outgoing mail server is mail. and your domain
    • Set the Server port to 587
    • User name: Check that this is your whole email address again (e.g. you@yourdomain.com .. the whole thing)
    • Password: Retype your password if necessary
    • Close the small dialog box

  13. Click OK and close the Accounts window. Mac OS Mail is now setup to send and receive email.
  14. Junk MailMail has junk filtering by default and can be educated to recognise wanted mail and junk email from un-recognised addresses.

    Thus, by carefully maintaining your address book, only unwanted mail, or mail from new contacts, will end up in your junk folder.
